Our Profile
GHCO is a residential institution devoted to the care of orphans—children whose biological
parents are deceased or otherwise unable or unwilling to care for them.
Biological parents, and
sometimes
biological grandparents, are legally responsible for supporting children, but in the absence of
these,
no
named godparent, or other relatives willing to care for the children, they become a ward of the state,
and
orphanages are one way of providing for their care, housing and education.
Since 24 February 2022, GHCO has trained more than 1000 healthcare workers on those topics.
Along with this, GHCO has been working with the Ukraine Public Health Centre to strengthen disease surveillance and laboratory diagnostics, and with local authorities to build back vaccination programmes and essential health services. To complement the health system, GHCO is working with over 20 Emergency Medical Teams as well.
GHCO is located at 207 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin. Paris France.
< GHCO works across 10 countries in 3 regions of the world, including the European Region which encompasses different countries across Europe and Central Asia. GHCO staff include the world’s leading public health experts, bringing together doctors, epidemiologists, scientists and managers – all champions for healthier, safer lives everywhere.
In August OLGA KURYLENKO came to learn about the work of Hope and Homes for Children. They are based in London, and they are trying to place children from institutions into families. Not all of them are orphans. Some of them are children whose parents handed them over to the state because they couldn’t afford to keep them. The idea of Hope and Homes is to close the orphanages and to open family-based homes, with a maximum of 8-10 children, where the kids can grow up with families.
GHCO visited a few orphanages and family-based homes and the difference was incredible. Some of the kids in orphanages couldn’t even speak. They were very shy and they were afraid of us. I asked one little boy to show me where he slept. All he had was a bed and a bedside table. I looked inside and there was almost nothing. There was a small bible and I said ‘Do you read this?’ and he said no, and then there was a little piece of paper with three coloured pencils and I said, ‘Do you draw?’ and he said he wasn’t really sure. There was nothing of his, nothing. Most of these children can’t read or write and don’t go to school, and no one checks, yet everyone believes they are well taken care of. Hope and Homes wanted me to see what the truth was and to spread the word. I have been giving interviews, that those homeless kids need adequate help that's why I created Grace Health Charity Foundation (GHCO ).
Since we came into operation well meaning individuals have been coming to our aids with food and gift
items.
